There are plenty of ways on how we can journal and many reasons why journaling should be part of your routine. We highlighted a few points that will help you find your motivation and your “why”.
1. Increase self-awareness
Ask yourself “What am I grateful for today?”, “What am I excited about today?”, “What are today’s highlights?”. These questions will make you look for the things you want to focus on and increase your appreciation.
2. Self-development
By writing down 1-2 things you commit to working on every day (whether it is “spend less time on the phone” or “be more patient“) you will be focusing on specific areas of your life that you lack knowledge or need to work on, leading to a gradual and consistent personal growth.
3. Help you develop a vision and keep you focused on your goals
By writing down your long-term vision every morning, you’re programming your brain to spot any opportunities in your everyday life that will help you move towards your goals.
This principle is also known as “auto-suggestion“.
4. Increase productivity and reduce procrastination
Try to plan your day in advance. Create a to-do list of all the things you need to accomplish. Make sure that your tasks include activities that will help you get closer to your goals. For an extra shot of dopamine, make sure you tick off all the tasks.
5. Develop a sense of contribution
Contribution has been found to be one of the best ways to increase our overall sense of happiness. In your Journal, commit to contribute in some way or help someone by performing random acts of kindness. It can be as simple as complimenting someone, telling someone how much you love them, or helping out a colleague.
6. Learn more
Including a section in your Journal for “daily learnings” will make you commit to learning something new every day. Additionally, writing it down will help you consolidate all of your learnings and allow you to come back to it at any point.
7. Stimulate your creativity
Use a journal to brainstorm new ideas and concepts. To boost your creativity start by doing something you haven’t done before such as writing a poem, a quote, etc.
Whenever we force ourselves to try something different, we are exposed to new inputs and perspectives, stimulating different senses that can help us to think even more creatively.
These are only some of the benefits associated with journaling. If you are a highly driven person or looking to improve any area of your life, then journaling might be the right tool for you.
